planning for ancillary: inside panels
CD COVER: for my CD cover I wanted to incorporate my logo as I think its looks visually intriguing and many artist who have their own logos do this.
Inside Panel: for this I have chosen a screenshot from my music video, where I wanted to incorporate some form of synergy withing my digipak and music video, also our music video was about showing our 'Inner demons' and the masks played a fundamental role in my video which helps makes sense to use this.

Planning mock up advertisment
For my advertisement I have followed the rules of Do's and Dont's as I have chosen to have my font the same as my digipak to show simplicity. Futhermore I plan to have a different photo of my artist but still have him in the same costume so I can avoid repetition while having my audience remember who he is.I will have a big photo of my artist as the main task is to promote them and with the use of having a large photo will attract the audiences eye. In addition I have included that my artist is a mercury prize winner, as the actual artist I took the song from is,so it makes sense to use this on my advertisement. Lastly I have included ratings from magazines that relate to my genre such as 'NME'
which helps my audience identify with this as it they read these magazines.
Planning Ancillary: Mock up digipak
The spine: For the spine I have included the artist logo which I made myself and the album name.
The back: I stuck with the same font as my album title as it adds to simplicity and makes it easier for my audience to read. Furthermore I have added my own creative twist by using a glow effect over the font, bar code and album label, this is something I used because I want the whole of my digipak to be appealing to my audience. With my track listing I decided to only have my artist use one featuring artist as I want the album to be about promoting my artist and showing his musical talents by himself. Lastly I added a smoke effect feature to add to the dark tone of my album.

Planning Ancillary: getting used to photoshop
Today I did a design activity where I had to make a digipak, I was given simple pictures of people and had to use photoshop to create something similar to a digipak. In my digipak I have chosen to follow the genre of rap music and followed the codes and conventions of this, I took inspiration from one of the highest selling rap albums 'Lil Wayne Tha carter iv'. I used a close up of my artist and used simple colours that complimented each other like below.
Planning Ancillary: Experimenting with photoshop.
Experimenting with Photoshop
In todays lesson I was given a set of random pictures to work. The task was to create a digipak that included the usual look of a normal album. I started by cropping the original image and placing it on the template. To make the task easier I decided that the couple looked like a dance duo therefore based the album around ballroom dance. This lead to me calling it the Golden Frame. This task helped get an idea of how to name my album; there has to be a connection between the image. For the back and name of the songs I kept to the ballroom dance theme. The font I used reminded me of the movie The Great Gatsby which I think the album reaches to the same type of audience.

Researching Ancillary Products: Reasons behind location choice
Main Photo Location :
I decided to use Alexandra Palace as the location to take pictures because it also features in the music video. I also think there is a lot of things around Ally Pally, that if I used in the album, would give a nice effect. For example I found a stone lion head that was perfect, then I found another that was broken and old. I took a picture because I could edit them and use them on the album.
It was important to take pictures at Alexandra Palace because it has a big backdrop which makes it easier for me to edit the photograph after. I wanted to take a panorama of London but it wasn't successful because the view was too big and my camera could not zoom in this far. I wanted to used the fence at Ally Pally because they are recognizable but also because it is where we filmed the cloning shot for our music video.

Blogging health check 2
This is a screenshot from the feedback and grade I got for my blog. By reading the comments, I definitely need to blog much more then what I have been doing as my grade has gotten lower and I will be aiming to push it back up again. To make this happen I will be going through the blog list and making sure I have done all of these blogs and also doing extra ones on top of this.
Reflection progress 2
Things that I will do in reaction to this:
- Finish Kace's website
- Create a website for my main artist Nathan Grey
- Get to 80 blogs by next week thursday
- Create a logo for Nathan Grey
Update
Since our last blog we have filmed and have continued to edit. As we have said, from the feedback we realised we needed to add more close ups which have been re-filmed and are now in our music video. Here is a screenshot to show an example of the new close up:
- INSERT SCREENSHOT -
We also said we needed a shot of scenery to show it going from day to night which we have done and adapted into the music video, here is a screenshot from a nighttime shot we have:

Filming Schedule
As you know from our feedback blog posts we need to film more shots which have already been listed, here is our timetable:
Monday - from 2.45pm we will be filming a sunset shot so we can clearly show the change from daylight to night time and also be filming close ups.
and then Tuesday 5pm we will be filming more bike shots at night time

To do list
After our rough cut feed back we noticed that we need to some emergency re-shooting.On Monday we will shoot a base track of Cristian in a alley way and have some shots on the sunset so we can introduce day to night. - Created with Haiku Deck, presentation software that inspires
Rough Cut
- We need more close up of Cristian as he doesn't come across as the main artist.
- We need to allow for Cristian to finish his words, instead of cutting away before he finishes.
- Try to cut on the beat.
- Show the development into the night shots; we could shoot some sunset shots to do this.
- We need jump shots when we are performing to follow Vernallis theory.
- Some of our shots are too long we need to make them shorter to follow the fast pace of the rap genre.
Feedback
This is a video of the feedback we have received from our class members and teacher. We will reflect on these points and improve them in the lessons to come..
we will also be filming on monday and tuesday to film more close ups etc
Today's Lesson Update
In this lesson we will be aiming to finish our first rough cut of our music video, once we are done we will show our class to get some feedback on how to improve it. I will be recording the feedback for our blog.

Production Of Music Video: Photos taken
Untitled Haiku Deck - Created with Haiku Deck, presentation software that inspires
Whilst shooting for the music video I decided to take some time to experiment with my camera. I asked Korrie to pose for the picture that could potentially be part of the DigiPak, However since Korrie aka Kace isn't the original artist on the song this means that it will be very unlikely for him to be on the album.
I still made a slide show showing how I set up a reflection from the lamp we were using to film to create a sound wave image on a wall. I think this image works well with our genere as the sound waves replicate the voice sound waves. I experimented with colour and I am considering the idea of this image to be on the album cover. The sound waves can also work as a Synergy for the artist Nathan Grey

Production Of Music Video: Editing so far
In this session of editing I started to set down the Base Tracks to our music video. I created 'bins'(folders) and placed the videos in order of location, this made selecting videos a lot easier. I placed a video of Korrie rapping and desaturated it to experiment with how it looked. This was a successful edit and gave a nice effect to the video. We will import this to more of the video =

Production Of Music Video: How is it going?
So far filming has been going at a good pace. Every filming session is fun to do and we get work done. There is a nice feeling of team work when it comes to filming as everyone does there part or finds a way to help. Although most of our filming sessions have been at night it doesn't feel too much effort to do because I am enjoying the process of creating the music video. I can see that my skills are improving with every session of filming. Before I wouldn't focus on the framing of the shot. However now I make sure it looks good before shooting.
There is a lot more preparation when we are planning a shoot because we know its important not to waste time when there. The group is getting along fine and we even set up a Whatsapp group chat just to make sure everyone has a way to communicate with each other.
Soon we will start editing and I put myself forward for head editor. I think we have some nice shots although when it does come to edit I think we might stumble because some of the shots we are looking to use are way too short. I believe that in the future we might have to go out again to re-film some shots and have the full song played.

Plan for Monday and Tuesday
Luckily, on Monday and Tuesday we have no college. Although to make use of this spare time we will carry on filming. The plan on Monday will be filming in the Graveyard again to get some more shots and also to redo some of the ones we have already done. On Tuesday we will be going to 'The Lift' to shoot the rapping scene as we needed an inside space to use our flickering lights.
Editing - Framing Shots
In todays lesson we have been reviewing all of our filming clips. In one stage of this, we noticed a slight fault in our framing. Here are the examples below:
In this shot we thought that the framing was bad as the camera should of been closer to us and also our heads should of been at the top of the shot. Another thing is that the camera was slightly too high.
In contrast, this was a better framed shot. We had the camera at a slightly lower angle and was much closer so it looked as the rapper was looking down into the camera.

Production of Music Video: Framing Our Shots
In this post I want to talk about my framing of shots and how I decided to improve them.
This is an example of a not so good shot. The subject isn't directly in the middle and in the view of the audience. Although not all music videos have their performer in the center of the screen all the time. In this shot there is a lot of open space to the left. Since in photography we learn about the rule of 3rd's and I remember from previous lessons we also used it in media. I decided to apply it. The original shot is too distanced from the performer and as a person who views rap music videos often; I tried to imagine what I would expect from this genre of music on a screen.
Therefore I placed the tripod lower then Kace and made a low angle shot that he could rap into. The masked people stayed in the same position. However there was a sharp light in the back the would darken the entire shot, this caused a problem as it was hard to see Kace's face even with the head light on the camera. At this point I directed Jonathan(to the right) to not move his head and block the light.
This shot works a lot better because it feels more direct to the audience. They feel more involved and adds to the entertainment factor.
From this experience I learned if I want to know how to set up a nice shot I just have to imagine what the audience would expect, and use my previous knowledge of watching music videos. Then blend this in with some creativity. Also add elements of cinematography. For example the masked are placed just enough to be seen side by side of Kace's shoulders. This sticks with our element of Life and Death, Heaven and Hell theme. They are meant to represent Kace's 'demons' but also the Angle and Devil on each shoulder.
